SD Statewide Homeless Count Coming

(Pierre, SD) — South Dakota’s statewide homeless count is going to be conducted next month. The South Dakota Housing for the Homeless Consortium announced over the weekend the annual count is planned for January 28th. It’s a one-day census, estimating the number of people experiencing homelessness and fleeing domestic violence. Officials say the data collected is supposed to help measure progress, identify service gaps, and raise awareness for those experiencing homelessness. Lawmakers and communities will also use the count to guide future decisions and improve responses.
