SD Turkey Flock Has Bird Flu, First On U.S. Commercial Poultry Farm Since April

(Jerauld County, SD) — A South Dakota turkey flock has the bird flu. It’s the first time an outbreak has been reported for a U.S. commercial poultry farm since April. The presence of bird flu was confirmed on a Jerauld County commercial turkey flock, October 4th. That’s according to data from the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service. More than 47-thousand poultry are considered affected by the outbreak and will have to be culled. HPAI has been detected in three commercial bird farms in South Dakota this year.
