(Vermillion, SD) — The South Dakota and South Dakota State men’s basketball teams both tip off the new season with wins. The Jackrabbits pulled away from a halftime tie and then held on for an 80-73 win over McNeese State Monday night at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls as part of “The Field of 68 Showcase.” The Coyotes were on their homecourt at the Sanford Coyote Sports Center in Vermillion as they defeated Southern 93-79. South Dakota’s win followed the Coyotes women’s basketball team’s last-second 85-83 overtime loss to Saint Louis. The South Dakota State women’s basketball team rallied from 13 points down in the fourth quarter and Haleigh Timmer’s three-pointer with eight seconds left rallied the Jackrabbits to a 65-63 win at Rice in Houston, Texas.
