Senator Rounds Introduces Bill To Improve Education Funding

(Washington, D.C.) — South Dakota Republican Senator Mike Rounds is pushing a new bill on Capitol Hill that could create more opportunities for education funding. It’s called the Affordable Future Loan Program. The purpose is to give students and parents another option if they can’t qualify for federal student loans. Rounds says the issue was actually voiced by South Dakotans who are not able to qualify for subsidized loans, particularly farm and ranch families. That’s because most of their assets are not considered liquid, and therefore, do not meet eligibility for the existing federal guaranteed student loan. If approved by Congress and the President, the program would work with banks and credit unions.
