(Pierre, SD) — South Dakota Republican Senator Mike Rounds is leading efforts to reinstate a ban back on beef imports from Paraguay. Rounds has teamed up with Montana Democratic Senator Jon Tester in filing a Congressional Review Act resolution that would overturn the Biden administration’s recent decision to lift the ban. It could work with just a simple majority vote. Rounds voiced his concerns that the safety of beef supply needs to be protected, citing Paraguay has a history of struggles with foot and mouth disease. Their resolution is supported by the South Dakota Farm Bureau Federation, South Dakota Farmers Union and several other national farmer organizations.
