SF Mayor Condemns Anti-Haitian Remarks

(Sioux Falls, SD) — Sioux Falls Mayor Paul TenHaken is condemning nationally-publicized comments claiming Haitian immigrants are eating dogs and cats. TenHaken posted on his personal X account that he’s visited Haiti several times and called Haitians “beautiful people” who have a “joyful spirit” despite living “in the harshest conditions.” While TenHaken didn’t reference anyone by name, he condemned the accusations against Haitians, saying they are not “dog eaters” or “savages.” The Republican mayor also responded to a comment claiming he “aligns” with former President Trump, saying he aligns “with no one,” but does align with his own values. Trump repeated claims during last week’s debate that Haitian immigrants in Springfield, Ohio are eating dogs and cats.
