(Custer County, SD) — More details are coming out from a deadly shooting and assault in Custer County that led to a multi-state pursuit. Officials say the suspect killed a man at a home on Highway 16 and also assaulted a woman Friday night before fleeing the scene. The man responsible was identified by South Dakota DCI and then spotted by law enforcement driving from Cheyenne, Wyoming to Colorado early Saturday morning around 2 a.m. A high-speed chase ensued while police applied efforts to get pickup truck stopped without using deadly force. However, the suspect shot himself and died at the scene before officers could get to him. The names of those involved have yet to be released as an investigation continues.
