Sioux Falls Car Theft, Vandalism Spree

(Sioux Falls, SD) — The start of 2025 is off to a rough start for car owners in Sioux Falls. According to Sioux Falls Police, nearly 40 cars were stolen over the weekend from Friday to Monday morning.

SFPD spokesman Sam Clemens says around half of the thefts were because people left keys left inside their vehicles. And the roughly the other half were Kia or Hyundai cars that have become an easy target because of manufacturing issues. Several dozen vehicles were also vandalized with windows smashed out in west Sioux Falls. Police say it was mainly apartment complex parking lots that were targeted.

Authorities are reminding folks to never leave their keys in car, even if it’s locked, and to pay close attention if you’re warming up your car during these winter months.
