(Sioux Falls, SD) — Sioux Falls says it let 32 million-gallons of sewage flow into the Big Sioux River last month because of the city’s record rains. The city made the admission yesterday as part of its report on the flood damage from the rains on June 21st and 22nd. Sioux Falls’ Jesse Neyens says while 32 million-gallons sounds like a lot, it’s not even one-half of one-percent of the total amount of water that flows into the river each day. Neyen said the city decided to release the sewage as a way to protect the city’s sewer systems, and to lessen the flood damage across Sioux Falls.
