South Dakota ACLU Reviewing Arkansas Decision On Trans Healthcare Ban

(Pierre) — The South Dakota ACLU chapter is reviewing Tuesday’s decision to overturn Arkansas’ ban on gender-affirming care for minors. The law struck down is similar to House Bill 10-80 that was passed in the South Dakota Legislature in February and takes effect on July 1st. Samantha Chapman, advocacy manager for the ACLU of South Dakota, says the court found the law violates the constitutional rights of transgender youth, their parents and their medical providers. Chapman added the ACLU can’t offer an in-depth assessment at this time without their review. Alabama, Arizona, Florida, Tennessee and Utah have similar bans.
