South Dakota Crime Rate Down Last Year

(Pierre, SD) — South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley says the statewide crime rate went down last year. The overall number of criminal offenses reported in 2023 was down two-point-five-seven percent compared to the year before. More serious crimes such as homicides, sex offenses, and aggravated assaults were down by over two-thousand cases. But Attorney General Jackley does note drug crimes, especially meth and fentanyl, continue to be a significant problem in South Dakota.
