South Dakota Using Federal Grant To Thwart Domestic Violence

(Pierre, SD) — A federal grant being used to help put a stop to domestic violence in South Dakota. The state was preliminarily awarded a grant of over half a million dollars back in October from the federal Office of Violence Against Women to assist in improving local and statewide criminal justice response. Attorney General Marty Jackley, Minnehaha County State’s Attorney Daniel Haggar, and Minnehaha County Sheriff Mike Milstead just announced they are teaming up to utilize the funds in a variety of ways. Those include enlisting special roles to target repeat and high-risk offenders, enhancing victim services. There are also plans to establish a statewide Domestic Violence Fatality Review Commission and to help assist South Dakota Voices for Peace.
