South Dakota’s First Divergent Diamond Interchange Opens

(Rapid City, SD) — The South Dakota Department of Transportation is opening the first-ever divergent diamond interchange in the state. It’s now open to traffic as of Wednesday in Rapid City over Interstate 90 at LaCrosse Street. The project has been in the works since 2021, and Senator John Thune says it now offers safety and ease to drivers. According to the South Dakota Department of Transportation, traffic flow is expected to increase from 35 to 65 percent over the next decade, making the interchange a necessity.
