State Senator Breitling’s Residency Questioned After Out Of District Home Purchase

(Pierre, SD) — State Senator Bryan Breitling’s residency is being questioned after he and his family purchased a home outside District 23, which he represents. Property records show the second term Republican lawmaker sold his residence near Miller and bought another home near Dell Rapids, outside of his district, that is listed as his primary residence. Breitling says the designation was done for tax purposes, but that he and his wife still own property in Miller and rent a house there. Some lawmakers say the situation takes away from Breitling’s ability to represent his district properly. Breitling’s situation doesn’t violate South Dakota law.
