Strong Winds Coming With Weekend Rain

(Pierre, SD) — Strong winds may pick up across South Dakota after the weekend rain. Showers and thunderstorms are in forecast for most parts of the state into today. But the forecast is showing the moisture, which is much needed, is going to produce what is known as a wake low. These are small areas of low pressure behind an area of rain that can create strong winds with the difference in pressure. Southeast South Dakota is likely to see the most impact, and folks are encouraged to put away light items that are outside while keeping an eye on changing weather conditions.
