(Sioux Falls, SD) — High school students are raising awareness for the Missing, Murdered Indigenous Women. More than 50 Washington High School students walked out of class yesterday to honor the thousands of Native American women and children who have gone missing, been abused or killed. Organizers took their walkout to Linwood Park and gave statistics on the MMIW epidemic. According to the South Dakota Missing Persons Clearinghouse, 80 of the 122 total current missing people are American Indian or Alaskan Native but many cases go unreported. Students say they hope the walkout inspired the younger generations so they can also step up and make a change.
