(Sturgis, SD) — The Mayor of Sturgis has resigned. Mayor Angela Wilkerson submitted her resignation on Monday, effective immediately. Wilkerson said in her letter she’s faced “constant opposition” from City Council members who sought to push her out through what she called “underhanded tactics.” City Council elected Wilkerson as mayor after the sudden resignation of former Mayor Mark Carstensen in February. The council is working on naming Wilkerson’s successor.
