Sturgis Rally Position Cut

(Sturgis, SD) — Planning for the annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally may be taking a hit next year. Under the 2025 budget proposed by acting mayor Kevin Forrester, the rally director position has been cut as well as two other rally-related positions. The current director, Tammy Even-Cordell, claims she was never asked about other ways to cut costs first and that her department has come in under budget each year. Forrester, a city council member who was recently named acting mayor, said during this week’s council meeting that cuts were needed because operations expenses were exceeding revenue. He believes the city can do a better job of optimizing some rally events rather than maximizing events. The new proposed budget will be reviewed again by the Sturgis City Council on December 9th.
