(Sioux Falls, SD) — The number of recent attacks on corrections officers is now up to three after an incident at the state penitentiary in Sioux Falls this past weekend. Department of Corrections staff confirmed Corporal Jesse Perry received facial injuries from an inmate during an altercation on Saturday, requiring an ambulance ride to a local hospital. Eric Olilla [[ Oh – leela ]] with the South Dakota State Employees Association says the consequences for serious behavior could be minimal unless criminal charges are brought against an offender with new policies that went into effect this month. When an officer was attacked in August, two inmates were charged with attempted murder because the DOC requested assistance from the Attorney General’s office. But AG Marty Jackley says his office hasn’t been asked to investigate this latest incident, and the DOC has yet to give any further information.
