(Washington, DC) — New incoming U.S. Senate Majority Leader John Thune says he prefers the traditional process of approving presidential appointment candidates, opposing what President-elect Donald Trump wants to do. Trump is asking the Senate for a recess that would allow him to appoint cabinet members without Senate hearings. Thune believes it’s not an easy option, telling Kelo Land News that both the House and Senate have to pass concurrent resolutions to do Trump’s way of appointing. But Thune noted the recess is still on the table as a potential option despite his preferences.
