(Washington, DC) — Republican Senator John Thune says the indictment of Donald Trump “looks like a political agenda run amok.” The Senate minority whip in a statement added that it’s clear why previous Manhattan district attorneys opted against prosecuting the former president. Trump was formally arraigned in New York Tuesday on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records, in which he pleaded not guilty. Thune is the highest-ranking Republican in the Senate to comment on the indictment. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell has remained silent on the situation. Congressional Republicans have rallied around Trump following the charges.
