(Rapid City, SD) — Rapid City officials are reacting to multiple reports of gunshots in the city over this past weekend. The Rapid City Police Department held a joint conference with the mayor to further discuss the incidents and investigations. On Friday, social media footage from a business security camera showed gunshots being fired off of Jackson Boulevard. Sunday night brought more reports of shots fired, this time near 5th Street on the South side of the city where police responded to 13 calls. However, most of those ended up having to do with fireworks. Rapid City Police Chief Don Hedrick is urging the public to call in to aid law enforcement whenever these situations occur. Rapid City Mayor Jason Salamun says gunshots will not be tolerated, adding “This is not Rapid City, a few knuckleheads do not define an entire community.”
