Woman Dies In Custody At Minnehaha County Jail, Foul Play Not Suspected

(Minnehaha County, SD) — Minnehaha County Jail Warden Mike Mattson says a woman is dead after he was found unresponsive in her cell on Wednesday. Her body was discovered around 2 p.m. during a routine cell check. The Minnesota woman was lodged at the jail just before 10 a.m. that day for DWI, possession of controlled drug or substance, and other charges. Jail staff, jail medical staff, Sioux Falls Fire Rescue and paramedics all responded with life-saving efforts. The Division of Criminal Investigation has been contacted by the Sheriff’s Office to review the investigation; however, no foul play is suspected at this time, according to Mattson.
