(Cooperstown, NY) — Joe Mauer is heading to Cooperstown. The former Twins catcher was voted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame yesterday. Mauer bypassed the 75-percent threshold by receiving just over 76-percent of votes in his first year on the ballot. The St. Paul native was selected by the Twins with the first overall pick in the 2001 MLB Draft. He spent his entire career with his home-town team. Mauer became the only American League catcher to win a batting title in 2006, and was the only catcher in MLB history to win three. He was a six-time All-Star, three-time Gold Glover, five-time Silver Slugger, and he won the American League MVP award in 2009. Mauer will be inducted into the Hall of Fame alongside Adrian Beltre, Todd Helton, and Jim Leyland in Cooperstown on July 21st.
