NCAA Changes Sports Wagering Violation Policy

(Indianapolis, IN) — The NCAA releases new sports wagering guidelines, affecting an ongoing investigation into Iowa athletes. The organization says the punishment handed down to student-athletes will be based on the violation. Players who bet on their team, provide inside information, or influence the outcome of a game due to sports betting could face a permanent loss of collegiate eligibility. Players who place a bet on a different school would lose up to half a season of eligibility. Other violations would depend on how much they bet. Athletes remain banned from sports gambling of any kind. 41 student-athletes at the University of Iowa and Iowa State University are under investigation related to sports gambling violations.
