Penguins Acquire Erik Karlsson From Sharks

(Pittsburgh, PA) — The Penguins are pulling off a major trade for the NHL’s top defenseman. Pittsburgh acquired Erik Karlsson from the Sharks Sunday in a deal that also included the Canadiens. The Pens sent San Jose a 2024 first-round pick, forward Mikael Granlund and defenseman Jan Rutta to San Jose while a 2025 second-round pick, goaltender Casey DeSmith, defenseman Jeff Petry and prospect Nathan Legare were shipped to Montreal. Karlsson won the Norris Trophy last season as the league’s best defenseman after scoring 25 goals and recording 101 points over 82 games.
