Twins Lose Series To Tigers; Put RP Lopez On Injured List

(Minneapolis, MN) — The Twins gave up five runs in the top of the fifth inning during a 6-4 loss to the Detroit Tigers at Target Field. Louie Varland was cruising entering the inning, but he gave up home runs to Spencer Torkelson and Kerry Carpenter to put Minnesota down for good.

He was charged with his third loss after giving up six runs in four-and-a-third innings. The Twins scored three and loaded the bases with nobody out in the eighth, but the next three batters all went down to end the threat.

The Twins will be without one of their top bullpen arms as he works on his mental health. The team placed Jorge Lopez on the 15-day injured list as he tries to improve his mental wellbeing. Lopez has struggled over the last month after getting off to a hot start in April. He’s now 2-and-2 with a 5.00 ERA and three saves.

Jordan Balazovic was recalled from Triple-A St. Paul in a corresponding move. Minnesota remains in first-place in the AL Central at 36-and-36. Pablo Lopez starts for the Twins against Boston tonight.
