United Beat Detroit City

(Hamtramck, MI) — The Minnesota United are moving on in the US Open Cup. The Loons beat Detroit City 3-1 in the third round of the tournament at Keyworth Stadium. The United allowed a goal in the fifth minute, but Franco Fragapane, Emmanuel Iwe, and Luis Amarilla all scored within six minutes of each other in the second half. The US Open Cup pits teams from multiple United State soccer leagues against one another, and the results of the matches don’t affect the MLS standings. Minnesota returns to MLS play on Sunday against FC Dallas.
