Wild Collapse In Third Period; Swing Deal for Defenseman

(St. Paul, MN) — The Minnesota Wild surrendered three goals in the third period during a 3-2 loss to the Nashville Predators at the Xcel Energy Center.

Joel Eriksson Ek gave Minnesota a 1-0 lead with a goal in the second period before Nashville scored three goals in the first 12 minutes of the final frame. Matt Boldy scored with under four minutes left in regulation to get the Wild within one, but they weren’t able to knock in the equalizer. Minnesota is in seventh place in the Central Division with 47 points and a 21-22-and-5 record. The Wild host the Ducks tomorrow night.

Also in team news, the Wild are getting some much-needed help on defense. The Wild made a trade for Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Will Butcher yesterday. Minnesota sent prospect Maxim Cajkovic back to Pittsburgh to complete the deal. Butcher has not appeared in an NHL game since 2021-22, when he scored two goals and tallied six assists in 37 games with Buffalo.
