New Gun Law Begins Intended For Rural School Security

(Pierre, SD) — A new concealed carry law is now in place intended to improve safety for rural schools. Senate Bill 203 allows people outside of law enforcement to carry a gun in public schools. It went into effect along with over two hundred other bills on July 1st. Sioux Falls Senator Jim Stalzer, one of the sponsors behind the bill, says the new law is meant more for rural areas where it may take more time for law enforcement to respond in a dangerous situation. The rules of the law are that anyone who has an enhanced concealed carry permit would be allowed to carry a gun on school grounds, with permission from the principal or any person in charge of the facility.
