Dickinson Possibly Removing Oath of Office Requirement

(Dickinson, ND) — Local officials are considering removing the oath of office requirement for Dickinson city employees. Many local governments in North Dakota and other states have required city staff to take an oath of office, as a reminder of the responsibilities and ethical standards expected of them. However, a proposed amendment brought up at a recent commission meeting would undo this requirement, as a part of Dickinson’s goal to streamline and modernize local government. During the meeting, the board clarified that people being hired for certain roles, such as police officers, would still be able to swear the oath if they choose to.
