Sioux Falls Woman Loses $58k After Scam

(Sioux Falls, SD) — Sioux Falls Police is reminding the public to not click on pop-up messages after a woman was scammed out of 58-thousand dollars. The 68-year-old woman said the message was about security on an iPad and she called the number listed to get things settled. Authorities say someone claiming to be federal agent accused her of money laundering and gave her instructions to withdraw money from her bank. Vice president for the Better Business Bureau of South Dakota, Jessie Schmidt says scammers use intimidation tactics and threats to get money from their victims. Police say they are trying to get the woman’s money back. If you find yourself in similar situation, police are advising to hang up the phone and to call someone you trust like a friend or family member.
