SDSU Football Season Opener, Business Booming In Brookings After National Title

(Brookings, SD) — South Dakota State Jackrabbits football kicks off tonight with the 2023 season-opener at home against the Western Oregon Wolves. It’s the first time SDSU has held the number-one ranking in the FCS to start the season. SDSU athletics director Justin Sell says the program is up almost 25-percent in season ticket sales this year after last year’s first-ever national title win. The athletic department’s spring auction and the booster club’s annual fund both broke records by a half-million dollars. Brookings is benefiting as well with some hotels on waiting lists and local businesses reporting an uptick in revenue on Jackrabbit game days and weekends.
