(Sioux Falls, SD) — A new study is revealing over 96-thousand South Dakotans are food insecure. The U.S. Census Bureau showed an increase in food-insecure households across the country this year. Also, the USDA said about 11 percent of South Dakotans lived in food-insecure households between 2020 and 2022. Hunger Free America attributes this surge to the expiration of the expanded child tax credit and universal school meals, calling the numbers a “wake-up call.” Hunger Free America and Feeding South Dakota continue to prepare for future demand as they believe it will at least stay the same, if not increase.
